Alfred Gus (Pete) Ulrich was born January 10, 1929 at his home on the ranch near Johnson City, Texas to the late Helmuth Ulrich and the late Iona Breed Ulrich. Pete and Lena Mae Felps were married June 20, 1959. He passed from this life on February 23, 2012 with his wife and grandson by his side. It was a peaceful, quite event which was a reflection of the life he lived.

He is survived by his wife Lena Mae Ulrich of 52 years, one daughter Debbie Ulrich Jones and husband Curtis Jones of Cedar Park, one son Keith Ulrich and wife Tracey of Johnson City. Grandchildren Kristopher Ulrich and wife Terri of Johnson City, Shannon Jones of Cedar Park, Trevor Ulrich of Johnson City. Great Grandchildren Presten Fiedler and Emily Fiedler. Brother F.H. (Bozo) Ulrich. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by parents Helmuth and Iona Ulrich, sister Winona Ulrich Herwig and husband Warren, and sister in law Thelma Ulrich. Pete lived and worked on the ranch all of his life where he raised sheep, goats, and cattle until he became ill in 2010 and passed the business down to son, Keith.

He was a member of the VFW and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Johnson City on April 19, 1964. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957 and was stationed in Korea. He was on the Johnson City School Board for 10 years and served his term as president. He was proud to be able to hand daughter Debbie her diploma when she graduated.

He loved ranch life and enjoyed hunting and simply watching wildlife especially deer and he made several trips to Colorado with the hunting bunch. He enjoyed watching sports on TV or watching grandson Trevor play baseball. He loved old western movies and enjoyed reading, westerns of course. Pete was a cowboy and spent many years calf roping and steer roping. When he married and had a family he traded that love for a greater love of family. Grandson Kristopher took every step that Opa took and followed in his roping tradition.

Opa loved his family and participating in family events. His pride and joy were his grand children and great grand children. He wasn't much for helping around the house or the kitchen but he did learn to make pancakes, fry eggs and he made award winning chili. His kids and grandchildren loved his blueberry pancakes with the exception of grand daughter Shannon. Pancakes were especially popular during hunting season and on family sausage making days. Trevor was able to convince him to make them some mornings before going to the bus.

Pete was raised on a ranch with a simple life and old fashioned values and continued to live his life and raise his children in the same fashion. He will be missed by many but in our hearts always.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make donations to the North Blanco County EMS, the LBJ Medical Center, First Baptist Church of Johnson City, or the JC Volunteer Fire Department.
