Frank B. Arnold, who shot himself in his office at Unadilla last Thursday morning, was a native of County Clare, Ireland, where he was born March 29, 1839. While still a lad he came to this country with his parents and settled in Connecticut. He was educated at Gilbertsville, Otsego county, and later at Hamilton College. He was supervisor of the town of Unadilla from 1880 to 1885, and chairman of the Board to 1881. In politics he was always an ardent Republican, and he was elected member of Assembly in 1885, 1886, and 1887. In the fall of 1887 he was elected to the State Senate over George Berry and served one term. Last fall he was nominated for a member of Congress by the Republicans, and after a warmly contested canvass was defeated by Geo. Van Horn. Mr. Arnold was a practicing lawyer in Unadilla [Otsego Co., NY], and was held in high esteem. The news of his death was a great shock to his many old friends in Gilbertsville. That he was deranged at the time he committed the deed is generally conceded, for in his normal state Frank Arnold was too brave to yield in the battle of life.
