ANDREW JACKSON LINEBARGER was born in 1829 in Covington, Fountain County, Indiana. His parents were LEWIS and JANE [Henderson] LINEBARGER. In 1831, the LINEBARGER family moved from Indiana to Will County, Illinois when LEWIS LINEBARGER became the first settler in the township of Florence and after living there for a short time they relocated to Macoupin County where they remained until 1836 and then moved to Montgomery County, Missouri where they remained until early 1843. In April 1843, ANDREW JACKSON LINEBARGER joined his parents in departing on the overland journey to the Oregon Territory and arrived in Oregon City on 26 November 1843. They settled on a home site in Washington County and were listed there in the 1850 U.S. Census. The LINEBARGERS remained in Washington County for about seven years. ANDREW JACKSON LINEBARGER fought in the Cayeuse Indian War in 1848 with two of his brothers.

In 1851, the ANDREW's father LEWIS LINEBARGER took a Donation land claim in Linn County, Oregon and the family moved there where ANDREW JACKSON LINEBARGER met LUCY ELEANOR GILMOUR and they were married there on 22 January 1852. They settled in Linn County and became the parents of one daughter, ELIZABETH "Betty" JANE LINEBARGER who was born in Linn County on 14 December 1852. LUCY died shortly after ELIZABETH's birth and their daughter ELIZABETH "Betty' JANE LINEBARGER went to live with her uncle and aunt, JOHN THOMAS and VIRGINIA [LINEBARGER] GILMOUR in Linn County, Oregon who raised her.

On 31 December 1857 in Benton County, Oregon ANDREW married ELIZABETH MCBEE and they became the parents of two daughters, NANCY VIRGINIA LINEBARGER [born in 1859] and MARY JOSEPHINE LINEBARGER [born 9 June 1862 in Benton County, Oregon. Andrew died in on about 10 June 1861 and was buried there.

Please NOTE: There is an unverified account that ANDREW JACKSON LINEBARGER died in Washington County while visiting a brother or "relatives" there in 1861, BUT there were NO known relatives still living in Washington County, Oregon at that time as all of his siblings had moved from there several years prior. ANDREW JACKSON LINEBARGER was living in Benton County, Oregon in 1861 and it would be more likely for him to have visited Linn County where his father LEWIS LINEBARGER and other relatives were living or Salem, Marion County where his mother was in the Oregon Asylum. Also, there is lore that he was buried in Washington County in a Union Cemetery in Forest Grove, but after visiting there this cemetery does not exist.
