DR. MICHAEL LEE RUTLEDGE, 50, passed away unexpectedly on September 27, 2008. He was a Christian, husband, father, physician, athlete and musician. He was born on July 20, 1958 in Robstown, Texas to Lt. Col. Robert Brenner Rutledge and Marilyn Hamilton. As a young boy, he was a military brat living in Alabama, Germany and Texas. He attended MacArthur High in San Antonio and later graduated from King High School in Corpus Christi, Texas A& M University with a BS in Microbiology, Baylor College of Medicine with a Doctorate in Medicine and Residency in Pathology. Mike was a member of the Memorial Pathology Associates group within the Memorial Hermann Hospital System for 18 years. Mike was a perpetual student of fine wines, all things botanical, history, finance, sports, and music. When he approached learning, he would not stop at the simple but would become an expert in all he attempted. Mike shared his knowledge with all he met his family, friends, and especially young people. He was an avid competitor in marathons, tennis or just throwing the ball to his dogs. He was a natural coach, helping start a youth track program at St. Vincent de Paul School. Mike is survived by the love of his life, Dr. Cecilia Valdes, who he married in 1981; his two children Alex and Emily were his pride and joy; his mother Marilyn Rutledge, brother Steve Rutledge (wife Julie), and his sister Vicki Hajdik (husband Tim, children Mark and Michelle). Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Mike's love of learning will be remembered in a scholarship fund. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the "Dr. Michael Lee Rutledge Memorial Scholarship Fund." Office of Alumni Affairs and Student Connections MS-BCM 160, One Baylor Plaza, Houston, Texas 77030-3411. Please visit www.mem.com to post a tribute for the family.
