J.W. Lanham, Vet Conductor, Buried Sunday
James W. Lanham, veteran Great Northern conductor, was laid to rest Sunday afternoon in Calvary cemetery, following services at St. Jude Thaddeus church at 3 o'clock. The church was filled with friends and railway associates of many years and the funeral procession was long, telling better than words of the esteem and friendship in which he had been held.
James W. Lanham (his friends called him "Jack" and only after his death learned his name was not John) was born at Lakenan, Missouri, July 9, 1881, he living there until he came to Havre in 1900. For a number of years he worked out of Havre and other Great Northern points up and down the line, but has lived here with his family for most of the years since coming to the state.
Mr. Lanham's death came unexpectedly. Long a sufferer from asthnma, he came in from his run on June 20 suffering from an attack, which rapidly became serious. All efforts at relief were unavailing and he died Thursday evening shortly after 9 o'clock.
A quiet man, loving his home and family, well liked by his associates, his death was a great shock. Those who had worked with him for many years had many fine things to say of his life and work, all voicing the thought that "Jack was a fine fellow, deserving many good words."
He is survived by his widow and four children: Connelly of Minneapolis, who happened to be home for a short vacation, and Murial, Mildred and Billy, all of Havre; one brother, J.M. Lanham of Lakenan, Mo., who was unable to come to the funeral.
Parents: James Edward Lanham and Jane Catherine Winston
