SALUDA — Richard Volney Townsend, age 86, of Saluda, formerly of Auburn, N.Y., died Friday, September 27, 2002, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond V. Townsend, and a granddaughter, Cara Renee Chapin. He is survived by his wife, nine children, one sister, Martha Cooke of Lynchburg; and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Centenary United Methodist Church, Saluda. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda.
