Philip John White was born in 1855 in Fountain Co., Indiana. His parents were John "Jake" White and Nancy Piper. He had five siblings and six half-siblings. His parents died when Philip was seven years old and he was raised by an older sister. As a young man, he immigrated to northern Texas. He married Anna Wilmot in Fannin Co., Texas in 1885 when he was 28 yrs. old. John Philip and Anna had six children, Lillie, Lizzie, Bessie, Elbert, Mamie, and Thomas Philip. In 1905, Philip John died following a fall from a horse. He is said to have broken a leg and had to crawl home in bad weather, developed pneumonia and died shortly thereafter. He is buried in the Old Kemp Cemetery, Kemp, Bryan County, Oklahoma. He does not have a headstone, and grandchildren relate "he is buried along the fenceline under a big oak tree." Philip John was very likely known as "John" instead of Philip.
