Stanley Alton Gore served in the USMC in WWII. Following a brush with death as a young man from Rheumatic fever, which claimed the life of his brother Joe Gore, JR. The disease ravaged his body and left him frail. As a result, Alton was trained to do clerical work in school, including typing. At the outbreak of WWII, he volunteered for service but was rejected for health reasons. Shortly afterward, he received a draft notice but was again rejected. Drafted a second time and subsequently rejected a third time, Alton refused to go home. He demanded that he be allowed to serve in some capacity and after learning of his clrical skills, he was allowed to serve as a clerk. He served in the Pacific and gave good service to his country, in spite of his infirmaties. He was truly a man of great honor.
