Warrant Officer Junior Grade (WOJG) Robert Dennis Karow of the Headquarters Battery, 907th Glider Field Artillery Battalion (GFAB), 101st Airborne Division, was born in DeForest, Dane County, Wisconsin, to Robert W. and Esther D. (Bullen) Karow on June 23, 1917.

Robert had three brothers, William E., Howard T., and Douglas E., one sister, Janet E. Karow, and one half-sister, Bernadine Ringstad. He also had another sister, Margaret, who sadly died in infancy in 1916. William Karow served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War. Howard Karow was a merchant marine for three years.

Robert was a graduate of DeForest High School and the University of Wisconsin where he studied accounting, graduating with the Class of 1938. Before entering the service, he was a credit union examiner for the State Banking Commission in Madison, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, on January 20, 1942.

WOJG Karow would be assigned to the HQ Battery/907th and set sail for England after boarding on the SS Strathnaver in New York Harbor on September 4, 1943. He arrived at Liverpool, England, on October 18th, and was housed at Benham Valence near Newbury, Berkshire, where the 907th GFAB set up its encampment.

WOJG Robert Karow was responsible for the daily Morning Reports of the HQ Battery throughout the war. When the logistical bases that had stayed behind in England were sent to Mourmelon, WOJG Karow received his orders, transferring him to the continent at the end of November 1944.

When the war was over he found himself in Austria, where he tragically died of an unknown non-battle accident in Hohenberg on June 21, 1945, just two days short of his 28th birthday.
