( when I was 6 ) Grandpa, Arthur Raymond and grandma Ione Vivian moved to Portland Oregon, they owned a house on Holgate Blvd. In 1974 they moved back to Rochester and lived there until their passing.
My grandmother was such a gentle and sweet spirit, I always remember the visits by her and grandpa. I grew up fortunate to have both of them in my life and being able to share adventures and experiences that I will never forget. The earliest memory I have is that of traveling with them, uncle Lowell and aunt Janet (McKnight) Lybarger to Minnesota. I was only about 5 years old but the memory is still with me.
Grandma definitely knew how to cook, when I was in the service I took a weeks leave to visit her and grandpa and just before leaving to see them, I had happened to weigh myself. My visit to Rochester was good, I went fishing on the Mississippi with grandpa and enjoyed the homemade meals grandma was so willing to cook. During that week I would wake up to grandma making a big breakfast, it was good and I did not want. All week right after a meal grandma would head back into the kitchen and start the next one. It was good and I was so full but I did not want to hurt her by not eating. Although I wasn't hungry because the previous meal had filled me I ate anyway and by the time I had returned from leave I had gained 10 pounds. For me, another great memory.
How much they played a part in my life was huge, I love them both and miss them .
I will always remember you till this life is done
then we will walk together in the time to come
