Religious Leader. A native of Vienna, he received there doctorates in philosophy and theology. He was ordained priest, on March 21, 1823. He served as Chaplain in Hütteldorf. He taught ecclesiastical history and canon law, in Salzburg, in 1825. On September 15, 1832, he became Director of the Oriental Academy, in Vienna, and of the abbeys of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Monostra and Komorn. On April 15, 1849, he was consecrated bishop of Seckau. He was promoted to the metropolitan see of Vienna, on June 27, 1853. Pope Pius IX created him cardinal, on December 17, 1855. He participated in the First Vatican Council, in 1869 and 1870. He passed away in his episcopal city.
