s/o Daniel Werner and Rosine Marx, born at Radsitz, Kries Wirsitz, Posen, Prussia, christened on Feb 21, 1819 at Lobsens Parish, Kries Wirsitz, Posen, Prussia. Married Caroline Wilhelmine Zierke at Lobsens Parish, Kries Wirsitz, Posen, Prussia on Jun 23, 1844. They had 12 children: Friedrich Wilhelm (1845-1849), Hermann Emil (b. 1847), August Sr. (1849-1929), Wilhelmine (1850-1850), Bertha Auguste ((1852-1928), Johann Friedrich Wilhelm (1855-1855), Pauline (1857-1903), Frederick?(1858-1932), Ferdinand Julius (1859-1941), William?(1863-1942), Charlotte (1866-1945), Auguste (1866-1915). A blacksmith, he died at Schmilowo, Kries Flatow, West Prussia, and was buried on Jan 30, 1870 at Vandsburg Parish, Kries Flatow, West Prussia, (now Wiecbork, Poland).

After his death, his wife and surviving children came to America between 1873 and 1878, settling in Sibley County, Minnesota, San Francisco, California, and Cleveland, Ohio: Caroline, Ferdinand, and twins: Auguste, and Charlotte, (1877) on the S.S. Montana, August (1874) on the S.S. Mosel, Bertha (1873) on the ship Columbus, Pauline (1874) on the ship Braunschweig, Frederick? (1877) on the S.S. Holsatia, and Hermann on the S.S. Mosel (1878).
