He received Military Honors at graveside, performed by the VFW Post of Lordsburg. His wife, Beverly Ann passed away January 23, 2006, and was laid to rest next to him on Jan. 30.
Fletcher was the oldest of 9 children. He was born in Douglas. He and his family lived at Cloverdale and he attended school at Animas. At the age of 18 he joined the Army, and fought for his country in WW II, earning various medals including a Purple Heart, and received an Honorable Discharge.
Upon completing his tour of duty, he returned to the states, got married and lived in Kentucky fo 40 + years before returning to New Mexico.
Fletcher was preceeded in death by his wife, Mildred, a son, Little Joe, 2 daughters Phyllis Awtry and Joyce Dewitt, a sister, Elizabeth Ellis, and a brother, George Awtry.
Survived by brothers, Albert, Howard and Ted. Sisters Arlene Wood, Kitty Grimm, Alice and Vita, sons, Alden, Donnie and Danny, daughter, Kimberly Voss and two step-daughters Janie Nichols, and Linda Lowell, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neices and nephews.
Fletcher was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.
