Homer A. Carpenter
Homer A. Carpenter, 70, Kincaid Trailer Court East, Mt. Pleasant, died at 12:23 a.m., Monday, July 12, 1993, at the Henry County Health Center.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1922, in Webster county, West Virginia, to Rex and Gustava McCord Goff Carpenter. On June 9, 1945, at San Francisco, Calif., he married Myrtle Bonser, who survives.
He attended Webster Springs High School in Virginia and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant for several years and was a police officer for the City of Mt. Pleasant for 10 years. He worked for Archer Daniels Midland at Joliet, Ill., until his health forced his retirement and return to Mt. Pleasant in 1977.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 58 of Mt. Pleasant.
He is survived by his mother of Cowen, W.V., his step-father, Tommy Goff of West Virginia; two stepbrothers, Tennyson Goff of Virginia and Lawrence Goff of Laurel, Md.; and one stepsister, Dorothy Cochran of Diane, W. V.
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Noble Carpenter; and one stepbrother, Ray Goff.
Open calling hours will begin at noon on Wednesday at the Weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, where a memorial has been established in his name.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Virgil Fry officiating.
A committal service with full military honors will be held in the chapel at the Forest Home Cemetery.
