2nd Boer War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. At the at the Battle of Colenso, Africa, December 15, 1899, Lieutenant Roberts, with several other men, tried to save the guns of the 14th and 66th Batteries, Royal Field Artillery, when the detachments serving the guns had all become casualties. Gathering some horses and drivers, he helped to hook a team into a limber and then to limber up a gun. While doing so, he was badly wounded and died two days later. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in February, 1900.
