A composer and musical director, Alexander was a brother of Johnny Hyde, officer and stockholder of the famed William Morris Talent Agency.

Alexander was musical director of the Loew Circuit in New York and toured Europe with his own band until he returned to the U.S. in 1928. He led a Navy band in WWI and received two commendations during WWII for his efforts as conductor and composer. His musical compositions included: 'Gypsy Rhapsody,' 'Cradle Song,' ' Barcarola' and 'My Heart is a Violin.' Alexander died of a heart attack and had most recently been working as a film editor for Republic Studios.
