Loras D. Kalb, 66, of 9620 Monticello Drive, passed away peacefully at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at home surrounded by the family he loved.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. Joseph's Church, Key West, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

Loras was born on Jan. 6, 1946, in Dubuque, son of Leonard and Marie (Thole) Kalb. He attended grade school at St. John's in Peosta and graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1965.

He married Katherine "Kathy" Foecking on May 29, 1972, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, Ill.

After working on the family farm, he drove a truck for different employers, including Flynn Ready Mix before he started his own business, Loras Kalb Trucking. He then was owner of Tamarack Repair until he retired.

He was a very active member of St. Joseph Church, Key West, where he proudly served on several committees, including school board, finance committee and parish council, where he served as chairperson for two terms. He was honored to be a eucharistic minister.

Loras also greatly enjoyed coaching his children's baseball, basketball and football teams through the years. The greatest joy of his life, however, was the joy that came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.
