Was grandson of one of Syracuse's original settlers
Dr. Robert Furman Adams, 72, retired, died yesterday afternoon at a private sanatorium, 1922 James street, after an illness of three years.
Dr. Adams was the grandson of Robert Furman, one of the two original settlers of Syracuse, who purchased land here early in the 19th century. He was born in the Robert Furman homestead in South Beech street, near the bridge over the Erie canal, one of the oldest houses in the city.
Dr. Adams left the city in his youth and studied at the Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, and at the University of Chicago, where he received his degree. He practiced in that city until 23 years ago, when he returned home.
He was a member of the Park Presbyterian church and is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. H. McMichael of Shanghai, China; three cousins, Dr. Charles F. Adams of Chicago, Mrs. Predonia Mann Martin of New York and Miss Abby Croly of this city. the funeral will be Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Oakwood chapel, with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
