Gary Dean Newcomer, 26, died following a lingering illness. Born July 25, 1945 in Russell, he spent his entire life time here. He received his education in the Russell school system and attented Ft. Hays one year. He was a member of the 995th Maintenance Unit of the Russell-Hays National Guard until receiving his disability discharge prior to the unit going to Vietnam. After working one year with the Associates in Gt. Bend, he returned to Russell in 1969 to be employed by the US Post Office in Russell. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. He was married on Sept 22, 1968 to Patricia Marston in Russell. Survived by his widow, daughter, Kayla Sue, 10 months; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Newcomer, all of Russell; 2 brothers, Roy, Wichita; and Glenn, Ft. Scott; sister, Mrs. Dale (Janice) Hudson, Lindsborg. Funeral at the church...Pohlman's...Russell Cem.
