The New Oil Co. was started in 1927 by Frank E. New who owned and operated it through 1945. In Jan. 1946, his son, Vernon F. New purchased the business and is operating it at the present time (1973). (Family Heritage Album-Russell County) Business Histories

Clippings: Sept 20, 1945 article states that Vernon Frank New was coming back to the US after serving 30 months in the European theatre of war. Oct. 18, 1945....Lt. Vernon F. New, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank New, arrived in NY yesterday from 2 yrs and seven months overseas in Italy, France, and Germany. He has been in the Army Air Corps more then 3 years........Nov 1, 1945, received his discharge and they returned to Russell Thursday.

Clippings.........?? 1941...............Picture of the wedding couple and attendants (Vernon Galyardt and Lucille New)........The bride is a graduate of RHS in the class of 1939 and for the past year has been employed in the office of the High School and also the office of Mr. Trump, Justice of the Peace. The groom graduated from RHS last year and is now associated with his father in the Skelly Oil Bulk Station Co. Mr. and Mrs. New will be at home on West 10th St. after a 10 day trip to Colorado.

Vernon "Frankie" New, son of Frank Edwin and Marie Kathryn Schaat New was born November 7, 1920, at Russell, KS. His death occurred June 6, 2002, at Russell Regional Hospital, Russell, KS. His age was 81 years, 6 months, and 29 days.

Frankie, as all his friends knew him, lived all his live in the Russell community. He graduated from Russell High School and WW II he served with the U.S. Army. After an honorably discharge from military duty, he returned to Russell to assume responsibility for the family business, New Oil company.

He married Reba Mae Millikin, September 8, 1940, at Russell and to this union were born two children: Jimmy and Jennifer. From the mid-1940's until his retirement in 1975, Frankie owned and operated New Oil company, a bulk delivery and service station operation for Skelly Oil Co.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, VFW and American Legion Posts, and Shrine Club, all of Russell, and Consistory and ISIS Shrine, both of Salina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lucille Bieger. Survivors include: his wife Reba of the home; one son, Jimmy New, Walkerton, Indiana; one daughter, Jennifer L. Adams, Lawrence, KS; one sister, Clarice Reinhardt, Russell; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
