"Another baby brother was stillborn on March 18, 1943, just before I graduated from high school. Mother had felt him alive inside of her, and she mourned for this baby boy, too. He wasn't named until later, when the Church encouraged parents to give stillborn babies a name. They named him William Reece Erickson, a very Welsh name and the surname (Reece) of my mother's mother's family.

All told, my parents lost four baby boys, which the doctors thought might be blamed on a problem in Mom's blood. The loss of these children was a sore spot in her psyche. She wanted to be the perfect Mormon in case she had the opportunity to raise those four baby boys. My family was sympathetic when my mother kept losing babies. They came together and supported each other. Sad things happened to them, too. Some in the family felt that Mom grieved so much over the deaths of those four little boys that it hastened her death."

Taken from the autobiography of Barbara Jean Erickson Andersen, "The Story of My Life", a sister.
