Mauna Horine-Evans first married Robley Clifford Evans in 1920. They had three children (V. Mary, Virginia M, and E. Eugene). When the oldest (Mary) was nearly 15, Robley died of pneumonia (1936). Robley's older brother (C. Bruce Evans) had become widowed 6 years earlier (1930), with two sons (Charles and John). Bruce stepped in to help his sister-in-law and nieces & nephew in every way he could until they were all approaching adulthood. Both sets of children (cousins) became as brothers and sisters. Ultimately, Mauna and Bruce decided to marry, in 1942, and had 23 wonderful years growing old together. At this writing (2020), the oldest of Mauna and Robley's childen (V. Mary Evans-Minnich) is still living and active, at nearly 99 yrs old. Mauna spent the last 35 years of her life actively researching and networking genealogy. When she was only 2 (1904), her father divorced her mother, moving eventually to California where he remarried and began another family. She never knew more about her father until, at age 75, she received a letter from her oldest half-brother in California (John V Horine), also a genealogist, who learned of her and laid out the entire history of their father and the "rest of her family". Their father had, in fact, been married very briefly even before his marriage with Mauna's mother, his first wife having died very young. All three of his wives names were Bertha.
