I suspect he may be this James C Forrest:
1920 Federal Census: Ellsworth County, KS
the James in that census says born around 1845 in Ohio. His father was listed as from Ohio, and mother from Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania and Ohio come up on Mayberry Smith Forrest's census data. Mayberry is about 12 years older. So James is unlike to be Mayberry's son, but he could be his younger brother or a cousin for instance.
