Mary was born on January 23, 1923, the daughter of John and Martha McCarthy in Savanna, Illinois. Mary enjoyed her childhood and loved growing up in the small river town of Savanna. Mary married Kenneth Bimm, her high school sweetheart on December 4, 1943, in Aberdeen, Maryland, prior to him being sent overseas to fight in World War II. He walked four miles every night to call on Mary. Kenneth passed away on October 9, 1992. Mary was a homemaker who cherished the time she spent raising her family. Mary and her husband owned a large Victorian home and Mary's mother stayed with them. Holidays were always celebrated in grand fashion. She loved her home and those who shared it with her. Mary had fond memories of traveling the Mississippi River on the steamboat, The Delta Queen, with Kenneth. Mary also enjoyed antique collecting, playing the piano and pump organ, and sharing her life with her sisters Patricia and Fuss. Most recently, Mary developed a love of art and gained confidence through her expression in art.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; her son, Craig Bimm; her daughter, Patricia Carr; a sister, Patricia Merz; and a brother, Morris McCarthy. Mary will be dearly missed by her son in law, Bob Carr of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandsons, Aaron (Jackie) Kreuder of Bondurant, Iowa, Josh (Jennifer) Kreuder of Savanna, Illinois, and Cash Bimm of Clinton, Iowa; her granddaughter, Amanda (Rodney) Kreuder of Ankeny; three great grandchildren, Kiersten, Kelsey, and Jackson Kreuder; a sister, Florence "Fussy" Remrey of Savanna; and a nephew, Rod McCarthy.
