A native of Owen Sound, Ontario, Lumley at 6'00", and 200lbs, played the position of Goalie for teams in the American Hockey League (AHL), and the National Hockey League (NHL). Lumley played for the Indianapolis Capitols from 1943 to 1945, New York Rangers from 1943 to 1944, Detroit Red Wings from 1943 to 1950, Chicago Blackhawks from 1952 to 1956, Toronto Maple Leafs from 1952 to 1956, Buffalo Bisons from 1956 to 1958, Kingston Frontenacs from 1960 to 1961, and the Winnipeg Warriors from 1960 to 1961. He was the recipient of the Vezina Trophy in 1953 and 1954. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1980 as a Player. Lumley passed away on September 13, 1998, at the age of 72, at the Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario.
