VICTOR BRACHT, a native of Dusseldorf, had genuine enthusiasm of Texas and Texans. He arrived in 1845 as an employee of the Adelsverein (German Emigration Company). Landing at Galveston he promptly headed for New Braunfels, where he established a home and grocery. For the next two years he traveled Texas German areas on behalf of his employer. Dissatisfied with existing immigrant guide books he wrote one of his own on Texas, which was published in Germany – later translated in English 1930's and became a valued history of Texas living during mid 1800's. In 1849 while back in Germany Victor asked Sibylla Schafer to marry him – he returned immediately to Texas and she followed later the same year. By 1854 Victor had moved to San Antonio where he operated a grocery and importer market near the Alamo. By 1960 Bracht was in New York where he took employment as paymaster with an English syndicate that was to build a railroad in Mexico – then he lived for a time in Orizaba, Mexico – he was also a translator for French Emperor Maximillian. Following Maximillian's 1867 assignation in the Mexican revolution Bracht lost everything. He returned to New York, promptly gained employment with Morgan Steamship who started a line out of Rockport Texas to New Orleans for cattle. For 20 years Rockport became Bracht's permanent home where he purchased land, became postmaster for 11 years, customs spector, the first town alderman and raised his family of seven children - the children followed Victor's earlier experience of grocery, merchandise marketing and hardware trade - the Bracht family was a central structure of Rockport's early commercial businesses.

Victor and Sybilla had 7 adult children to live beyond the toddler age.
