GREENWOOD - Yvonne B. Algier, 75, of Greenwood, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
She is the daughter of the late Frank and Viola Brown Breeding.
Mrs. Algier was employed by the Kent County Levy Court, Delaware State Department of Public Instruction and after 25 + years of employment with the Delaware Technical and Community College, Southern Campus, retired in 1991. In 1997, she and her husband, "Buzz," moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., as "snow birds." She very much enjoyed spending the winters there.
In her spare time, she was an avid card player. Yvonne and her family were also Adopt-A-Highway volunteers for over 10 years.
Yvonne blessed her family with great love, compassion, selfless giving and loyalty. She enjoyed life to its fullest and will be remembered for her happy disposition.
Mrs. Algier was a member of the Todds Chapel Family for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Woman of the Moose #1229, and the Harrington Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Althea Messick; and brothers, Paul and Allen Breeding.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 57 years, Douglas "Buzz" Algier, of Greenwood; sons and daughters-in law, Marlon Douglas and Brenda Algier, Terry Wayne and Jo Ellen Algier, all of Greenwood; grandchildren, Mark Douglas Algier and wife Krystal of Easton, Md., Christopher Lee Algier of Denton, Md., Jared Paul Algier of Salisbury, Md., Katey Jo Evans and husband Kevin of Bridgeville; great-grandchildren, Madison, Madilyn, and Blake Algier; sisters, Blanche Horney of Guilford, Conn., Marian Tull of Bridgeville, Joanne Outten and Nancy Smith of Dover.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. Du-Pont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, or to Todds Chapel UMC, 6891 Scotts Store Rd, Greenwood, DE 19950.
Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
