Mrs. Betts was born Carolyn J. Hartman on Sept. 17, 1941, at Abilene. She was a resident of Russell since 1966, moving from Wichita and was a former resident of Salina. She worked as an office secretary for Drs. Raben and Glenn, the Bella Vista Division of Chief Industries and for the clerk's office of Russell for the past 151/2 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ladies Golf Association, Gamma Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Russell Antique Club, all of Russell.
Survivors include her husband, Jim of Russell; two daughters, Jonette Penton of Topeka and Paula Marshall of Omaha, Neb.; her parents, Johnnie and Naomi Hartman of Hope; a sister, Janice Burns of Salina; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel, Russell, the Rev. Jack Ropp officiating. Burial will be in Russell City Cemetery.
