m1: Dec. 13, 1842 at Perry, Illinois, USA.

Hugh traveled with his family from Du Quoin, Perry County, Illinois to Texas through Indian country to receive land grant from the Robertson Land District (present-day Johnson County). Hugh had been in ill health when the family left Illinois in 1848. As he grown steadily worse along the way, it was decided, just after crossing the Red River at Colbert's Ferry (near present-day Dennison, TX) and reaching Texas land, to make camp until Mr. McClure was better. But in a few days he died and was buried on the farm of a Mr. Holland Coffee in May 1848. The family continued on.

NOTE: Mr. Holland Coffee developed the town of Preston near The Holland Coffee Trading Post on Red River. Mr. Holland Coffee Tomb was moved to Preston Bend Cemetery before Lake Texoma filled up. Most likely Hugh McClure's grave is underwater at Lake Texoma.
