Nicholas William Andrews was the son of Nicholas Andrews (1849-1881) and Jane Kein (1851-1909). Nicholas Sr. is believed to have arrived from Ireland in 1874 on the ship "Egypt". Young Nicholas was born in Washington County New York as were his three siblings, John, Anna and Mary. The 1880 Federal Census lists Nicholas Sr's occupation as blacksmith and living in Cambridge with his family. Nicholas' occupation is listed as carpenter in the Hoosick Falls Directories. Apparently Nicholas was also a volunteer firefighter given the Hook & Ladder marker at his grave.

In 1907, Nicholas William Andrews married Bridget Luddy, also of Cambridge, NY and they had six children:

Thomas Andrews 1910 – 1970
Hanorah Andrews 1912 – 1916
Helen Andrews Hoag 1914 – 2004
John Benedict Ben Andrews 1916 – 1982
Joseph Andrews 1916 – 1916
Jean Andrews Orton 1920 – 1987

Story from Nick's daughter Helen Hoag:
When he was a small boy a lady asked him to take some things to the dump. Among them a five-piece blue willow tea set. He thought it too beautiful to dump so he hid it in the cellar of his mother's house. I wonder why. I never knew Jane Kein Andrews - was she of German extraction, was she too orderly and practical to welcome a tea set?
When my father and mother were married he resurrected it and later built a beautiful corner cupboard to house it. (Please see attached photo.)
