JULIET HIPPENSTEELE McDONALD, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born Aug. 29, 1942, in Coldwater, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Ralph O. Hippensteele and Geneva Edwards Hippensteele Sweeney, R.N., of Fremont, Ind.

After her graduation from North Side High School in 1960, she began her career at Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire Co. as a secretary. In 1972, she married Larry C. McDonald, who encouraged her desire to achieve a college degree. While working full time, she completed a BS degree in Business Administration in 1983, and received an MBA from Indiana University in 1985. After serving as Manager of Pricing, Credit & Collections and Financial Services, and Director of Strategic Planning, she was appointed the first woman Vice President at Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire Co. in 1987.

She was President of the Summit Club from 1986 to 1990; an active member of the Council of Business Women and Erin's House for Grieving Children; and served on the Embassy Board. She is listed in the "Who's Who in the Midwest 1990-1991".

Surviving are her husband, Larry C. McDonald of Fort Wayne; brothers, Steven A. Hippensteele of Strongsville, Ohio, and John A. Hippensteele of Fort Wayne; daughter, Georgia Comstock and three grandchildren, all of Boulder, Colo.; and loving nieces and nephews.

Service is 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 501 W. Berry St., with calling one hour prior to service. Calling also from 6 to 9 p.m. today, March 18, 2011, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St. Burial in Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Ind. Preferred memorials are gifts to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation or Heartland Hospice.
