The Times, Washington, Sunday, November 27, 1898, p. 2, col. 5:
Justice Sellers Dead. Rosslyn, Va., Nov. 26. – One of the most famous characters of Old Virginia passed away yesterday, after a short illness [pneumonia], in the person of Justice Valentine Walker Sellers, of this place.
Justice Sellers made his home for years in an old house, which was also used as his courtroom. His law was expounded according to Sellers, and when an offender was brought before him the decisions of his court were always more conspicuous for their humanity and common sense than for their legal strength.
Justice Sellers passed away at 4 o’clock. He was 59 years old.
