Matthew Jordan Brown

Matthew Jordan Brown, 17, of Montvale, died Friday, July 25, 1997, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was born in Roanoke on September 25, 1979, son of Bedford County Sheriff Michael J. Brown and his wife Janet McCane Brown.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his half-sister, Sarah Rice Dean of Roanoke.

Matt was the grandson of the late Bernard and Carrie McCane of Lynchburg, and Jordan and Virginia Bohannan Brown of Big Island.

Matt was an active and dedicated member of Glade Creek Lutheran Church, Blue Ridge, where he was a member of the Youth Group, taught Sunday School and served as an Acolyte and Crucifer.

He was a 1997 graduate of North Cross High School, Roanoke, where he was a member of the Drama Club, the Creative Writing Club and the Swim Team. Matt was gifted in creative writing and loved poetry. He wrote many poems, was a Shakespearean scholar and an accomplished thespian.

He loved magic and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Ring #222.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 1997, at Glade Creek Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert J. Maier and the Rev. Travis E. Witt officiating. Burial will follow in Big Island Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to either Glade Creek Lutheran Church, 180 Webster Road, Blue Ridge, Va. 24064, or the D.A.R.E. Program, c/o Bedford County Sheriff's Office, 1000 Broad Street, Bedford, Va. 24523.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, and other times at the home of John and Donna McCane, Cedar Creek Farm, Forest.
