Services today
KERRVILLE--Herbert K. Gamel, 86, of Harper, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born March 6, 1916, to Herbert Zork and Mary (Mullins) Gamel, in London, Texas. He married Foy Harper Jan. 5, 1936, in Socorro, New Mexico. Mr. Gamel was a building contractor and owned and operated a motel in Harper for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army 1945-46.
Survivors include his wife, Foy Harper Gamel of Harper; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Retha Gamel of Harper; a daughter and son-in-law, Dhela and Wayne Griffith of Stonewall; two grandchildren; and one sister, Kathy Lynn of Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dhelas W. Gamel; a granddaughter, Gayle Gamel; brothers and sisters, Jeff Gamel, Foy Mae Gamel, Celeta Ray, Jack Gamel, Dorothy Reed, Patsy Metzger, Bill Gamel and Skip Gamel.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel in Fredericksburg, with Dr. James Englemann officiating. Interment will be at Harper City Cemetery at Harper.
Pallbearers are Jim Bob Stevens, Boyd Harper, Paul Lang, Mitchell Harper, Marck Schumpelt and James Ellis.
Memorials may be made to Harper EMS.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home, Fredericksburg."
