Elder Jacob Metzger was called to the ministry in the German Baptist Church near Dayton, Ohio in 1844. (Some sources say he moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana in 1836). He became an Elder in 1866. At the time of the split in the German Baptist Church in 1881, Elder Jacob Metzger went with the Old Order movement and was the first Elder at Eel River Old German Baptist Brethren Church at CR 1200S and Packerton Road in Kosciusko County. He died three years later, 10 days before his 74th birthday. He built the brick house that is 1/4 mile east of CR 100E on CR 1200S in Kosciusko County, Indiana. The barn fell into disrepair and was burned in 1998. The brick house is still standing in 2024. His funeral eulogy was given by Elder G.V. Siler of Ohio in the Eel River Old German Baptist Brethren meetinghouse. He is buried in the south-west corner of the church cemetery.
