Carroll John Gilmore, 96, formerly of Ira, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at the Pines in Rutland.

He was born Nov. 16, 1915, in Ira, the son of Charles and Grace (Parker) Gilmore.

He was a graduate of West Rutland High School, Class of 1932.

Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, serving as a staff sergeant in WWII in the South Pacific and Korea.

After returning from the war, he worked for J.P. Morgan Estates in Glen Cove, Long Island, N.Y. He returned to Vermont and worked for Worthmore Feed Co. in Rutland, and later worked for Tambrands Inc. for 20 years, retiring in 1980.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Ruthe Mae (Traverse) Gilmore, who he married July 1, 1968. She predeceased him in 2005. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Rita Gilmore and Shirley Johnston.

There will be no services at this time. A spring burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Cancer Center, 160 Allen St., Rutland, VT 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home.
