Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the West Side District Cemetery for Chester Earl Gwin, 84. The Taft Midway Lodge #426, F. & A.M. will officiate. Mr. Gwin was born in Mendocino on June 27, 1911 and passed away Feb. 13, 1996 in a Bakersfield care center. He had been a resident of the Kern County Area for all his life and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Taft for many years. Mr. Gwin was a member of the Eastern Star and worthy patron, the White Shrine, the Bakersfield Shrine, the Bakersfield Shrine Temple and High Twelve Club, and master of the Midway Lodge several times. He is survived by a daughter, Alice Earlene Manalo of Buena Park; two grandsons, Gary Copeland of Boulder, Colo., and Wayne Hensley and his wife, Rose, of Bakersfield; a sister, Dorothy Quinby of Santa Barbara; a brother and his wife, Delbert and Barbara Gwin of Porterville; a nephew, Jim Gwin of Ashland, Ore.; a niece and her husband, Mary Lou and Gene Stewart of Visalia; a great granddaughter, Amanda Hensley of Bakersfield; and a great grandson, Michael Hensley of Bakersfield. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Spool Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach.
