J. D. (John Driskell) Jordan, 90, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011, in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was born December 30, 1920, in Plehweville (known as Art today), in Mason County to Frank and Ella (Eckert) Jordan. He was grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Jordan and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Eckert. J. D. married Joyce La Barr on December 24, 1942, in Montrose, Colorado. J. D. received national recognition for his prize winning 4-H steers. These awards resulted in the Frank Jordan family being recognized as the Farm Family of the Year by LIFE Magazine in 1951. J. D. was the 4-H representative from Texas and Joyce was the 4-H girl from Colorado. They met in Washington, D. C., in 1938, fell in love, but both graduated from college before marrying in 1942. J. D. Was a 1943 graduate of Texas A. & M. He served in WW II in the U.S. Army 4th Division 8th Infantry in Europe, and was wounded in battle. In 1955, J. D. was employed by the Farm Bureau as an area field representative where he worked with county leaders and county offices of the Farm Bureau in West Central Texas. He moved to Waco where he "headed" the Beef Cattle Division in the state office of the Texas Farm Bureau. He served as Secretary of the Greater Hill Country Hereford Association. He and his wife, Joyce, retired in Fredericksburg in 1984.
Private interment was held in the Gooch Cemetery, Mason, Texas.
