George Asbury Buhrman was the second child and first son of William Henry Harrison Buhrman(1841-1900)and Josepha Backus Anderson (1847-1884)of Botetourt County, VA. He was a prosperous Botetourt County farmer, lumber mill operator, had a hardward business in Eagle Rock, was a filling (gas) station owner, and a Botetourt County Supervisor at different times in his life. He married Annie Ethel Slusser on 15 Dec 1917 in Washington, D.C. at the Methodist Church there. Annie Slusser had been an elementary school teacher and principal before her marriage. George and Annie Ethel lived at 500 acre "Valley View Farm" in Botetourt County where his father (WHH Buhrman) and grandfather Abraham Buhrman had lived. They had 3 daughters: Mary Virginia, Doris Ethel, and Georgia Grey. They were active members of Bethel Methodist Church in Eagle Rock. Annie Ethel also helped in her parents Country General Store until her father's death in Jan. 1920. Her mother (Bettie Alice Curd) sold the Slusser home and property upon her husband's death. The road where the Slusser home was located which continues farther to join the Buhrman farm has now been named BUHRMAN ROAD as a tribute to the many contributions Abraham Buhrman and so many of his descendants made to Botetourt County, VA. A son of Graham Buhrman, Graham Buhrman Jr. also lived on this road. The George Buhrman family moved to Clifton Forge, VA in 1929 so their girls could attend schools nearer home and have access to music lessons. The family moved to Iron Gate June 1942 where George was working at the time of his death. Annie Ethel eventually sold the home in Iron Gate and moved to Clifton Forge, VA. where she lived with her daughter Grey. Annie Ethel was the Manager of Hodges Jewelry Store in Clifton Forge, VA. While living in Clifton Forge, they were active members of the Central Methodist Church.
