Born April 6, 1913, in Reidsville, Mrs. Young was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Lula A. Hornbuckle Pettigrew. She was educated in the Reidsville schools
She was retired as a supervisor at Leisure Lads Manufacturing Co. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Spencer.
Her husband, Hampton Theodore Young, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Richard Young, Spencer, and Charles Young, Newberry, S.C.; daughter Martha Meadows, Rutherfordton; brother Joseph A. Pettigrew Jr., Monroe; sisters Louise Allen, Charleston, S.C., and Isabel Gobbel, Alexandria, Va.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert McLawhorn, pastor, Central United Methodist Church, Spencer, and the Rev. Rodney Hagans, a former pastor at Central Methodist. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Richard Young.
Memorials: Central United Methodist Church, Maintenance Fund, 200Fourth St., Spencer, NC 28159; or White Oak Manor, Activity Department, 188 Oscar Justice Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
