Joanne Hastings Williams died peacefully at home February 18, 2004. Born March 22, 1930 in Ogden, Utah to Harold and Veda Bertoch Hastings.

She spent her early years in Alhambra, California until her fathers death in 1944, when she returned to Utah.

She married her lifelong companion Thomas 'Verd' Williams, January 2, 1947.

Joanne started her career at the Navy Distribution Depot and later moved to Hill Air Force Base retiring after 30 years of service. She successfully balanced work with raising a large family and never failed to share her high standards and sense of fair play with all who knew her.

Joanne was a voracious reader with exceptional retentive skills making her a great conversationalist and an adept debater on any subject.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, her children, Carol (Duane) Kelley, Shauna Williams, Jana Hiner, James (Susan) Williams, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brothers, Harold Hastings, Ronald (Jan) Hastings, and sister, Bonnie Schneider,

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, daughter, Denese Williams, stepfather, Albert Schneider, and sister-in-law, Margie Hastings.

Graveside services will be held Monday, February 23, 2004 at 12 noon at Kaysville City Cemetery.

Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquists Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and other attendants who made her last days more comfortable. We appreciate your help and know that Joanne recognized those of you who made special efforts.
