In 1870 Will married Melvina Whitson in Keokuk Co. Iowa. Five sons were born to them, William (called Andy), Elzy, Wesley, Charles (who was called Johnny) and Guy. Johnny died and was buried on their homestead. In 1883 Melvina took Guy and left to go back to her folks, leaving Will to raise his other three sons alone.
In winter of 1888 a record breaking blizzard came out of the north. Elzy who was 12 at the time, was caught in this storm and froze to death.
In 1918 Will moved to Arizona. In Dec. of that year he was admitted to the Arizona State Mental Hospital where he died and was buried in an unmarked grave.
