Bernard "Bernie" Eugene Kling, age 75, of Lemmon, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger. Bernie was born on November 18, 1936, to Martin and Clara (Hoffman) Kling at the Lemmon Hospital. He grew up on the family ranch west of Keldron by the overhead. He attended grade school in Keldron and later in Thunder Hawk graduating from Lemmon high School in 1955. While he was in high school he worked as a proofreader and on the press at the Lemmon Leader. After graduating he worked for his brother Roy on his ranch. While going to High School he met Katie Hoff whom he later married on June 1, 1957. He worked for Henry and Bobbie Hoffman for 1 ½ years, where Bradley was born. He then went to work for Tom and Esther Lyman on the Rippling Water Ranch, where Dennis, Pam and Nancy were born. He later purchased the Ranch from the Lymans' where he resided until 2007. Bernie went to Hendricks Vet School in Colorado Springs in 1963. After graduating he did many jobs such as testing bulls, preg testing, spayed heifers and cesareans for numerous neighbors and friends.
He enjoyed riding horse and hunting, and we all know he loved to play cards. He loved little kids and always had candy to pass out to them. His grandkids and great grandkids were extra special to him.
Bernard was on the Grand River Fire Department, always selling the most tickets for their raffles every year. (He loved this). After moving to Lemmon he loved going to Northwest Supply for coffee in the morning, cards in the afternoon and poker games on some evenings. In between playing gin rummy with his wife and friends, he found time for a nap and some Walker Texas Ranger. He was a very Loving, Caring, Compassionate man and was always willing and ready to help where and who ever needed it. He was always willing to support all local fundraisers. He will be missed very much by all his family and friends, and we will all miss his sneaky little smile.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Katie, 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Kathy Kling, Lemmon, SD; Dennis and Leah Kling, Keldron, SD; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Mike Fox, Desmet, SD, Nancy and Doug Lukonen, Watertown, SD; 10 grandchildren, Seth (Sharah) Kling, Jackie Kling, Jessie Kling, Ashley Kling (Kevin Schickendanz) Samantha Kling, Dylan Kling, Kristen and Makayla Fox, Grant and Holly Lukonen; 4 great grandchildren, Corey, Brandon, BrynLee, and Clinton, 1 brother, Walter Kling, Axtel, UT; 2 sisters-in-law, Avis Kling, Lemmon, SD, Jean Kling Ganzer and her husband Harold, Dickinson, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews, and on Katie's side of the family, sisters-in-law, Marie Hoff, Lemmon, SD, Josephine Hoff, Ephrata, WA, and brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Florence Hoff, Lemmon, SD.
