Sarah was the youngest daughter of Jesse and Mary Wharton Dunlap. She and her two older sisters were three of 17 survivors of the Mountain Meadows Massacre in UT on 9/11/1857, where over 120 brave souls were slain. She was married to Capt. James Lynch, one of the soldiers who helped return her and the other surviving children to Carroll Co., AR. Sarah suffered greatly in her life because of this tragedy, losing her sight and the use of one arm, everyday reminders of what she witnessed even though so young.
