Samuel was a farmer when he married Sarah Trott in 1877. He later worked as a brick mason as was his brother John Thomas Austin. His parents: Thomas Austin and Sarah Wegan (Megaw) were from Northern Ireland (Scottish) and farmed in Chester Township, Ottawa County, Michigan from 1851 to 1882. Thomas, Sarah, Mary Ann and Henry arrived in New York, USA on 10 Jan 1851 on the ship Iowa from Glasgow, Scotland. Samuel was the first child in the family to be born in the USA.
