Charles Langham was born to Lewis L. Langham and Ann Catherine Thompson. His mother died when he was 6 years old. His father remarried and moved to Escambia County, FL and then in 1861 to Mobile, AL. Charles was said to have attended boarding school in Mobile, AL. After his father's death in 1861 he and his siblings moved back to Wilcox County, AL. Charles married his first wife Ellen Bruce in AL then they moved to East Carroll Parish, LA. She died in the yellow fever epidemic along with a son. After his other child passed away, he later moved to Bay City, Matagorda, Texas where he met his second wife Martha Dantzler. He was one of the first rice farmers in Texas. He served for many years as the Treasurer of Matagorda County for 20 years.

He was buried May 28, 1935 in Bay City, Texas [from his death Certificate # 24873]
