VENICE, Fla. -- John James Kennedy, 88, of Venice, Florida, passed away on February 14, 2012. He was born on December 3, 1923 in Dover, Ohio.

John retired from the Kuss Corporation as a Systems Analyst in Findlay, Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts while on duty aboard the U.S.S. Aaron Ward off the coast of Iwo Jima.

John moved to the Venice/Nokomis area in 1985 from Findlay and was a member of Epiphany Cathedral.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Catherine V. Kennedy; two daughters, Catherine A. Kennedy of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Susan M. Stout of Cody, Wyoming; two sons, Patrick A. Kennedy of Wellington, Florida, and Steven F. Kennedy of Findlay, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Janice Spindler of Waterville, Ohio; and a stepson, Brian H. Hatfield of Oregon, Ohio. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, Kimberly A. (Kennedy) Klepper, Julie M. Stout, John P. Kennedy, Jason P. Kennedy, Ryan C. Stout, David A. Kennedy, Tiffany R. (Stout) McFadden, Timothy D. Kennedy, William Spindler, Mark Spindler, Jason Spindler, Brian H. Hatfield, Jr., Christopher Hatfield, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

John was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary M Kennedy and a brother, Richard Kennedy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Epiphany Cathedral. Burial with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.

Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida is handling the arrangements.
