Betty June Alton, 88, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Sun Valley Lodge in Sun City.

Born May 19, 1923, in Durant, she was the daughter of Carrol and Bessie Hay Dell. On Feb. 20, 1943, she married J. P. Smith. He died Aug. 26, 1986. On Aug. 3, 1991, she married Robert Alton Sr. He died Dec. 22, 2007.

Mrs. Alton was a homemaker and worked part-time for doctors Readinger and Vaughan in New London. She graduated from Bushnell, Ill., High School in 1941, and in 1942 from Liberty School of Cosmetology in Peoria, Ill.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant and New London Christian Church. She was a member of Chapter NZ, P.E.O., Mount Pleasant Country Club, HCHC auxiliary, Mount Pleasant, Woman's Club and New London Mothers' Club. She enjoyed golf, sewing, cross-stitch and especially, family.

Survivors include two daughters, Carrol Stukerjurgen of Sun City and Janet Roederer of Mount Pleasant; one stepson, Robert Alton Jr. of Mankato, Minn.; three grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.


Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.
