FAY DOWNS

Mrs. Fay Carol Downs, co-owner and operator with her husband, Al, died Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. in a local hospital. Mrs. Downs, who was 53, had been seriously ill since February, 1959, and had currently been in the hospital for more than three weeks, and not long before had been there for two weeks.

A native of Eugene, Ore., she was born there August 18, 1906. After completing her primary and high school education in Eugene, she attended the University of Oregon for two years. She was married in Portland by her husband’s father, a Methodist minister, October 16, 1932, and with her husband established their home in Eugene.

Mr. and Mrs. Downs lived in Eugene until 1937 when they came here. They had subsequently also lived in Medford, Portland and Bend where Downs was an official of the Union Oil company until 1949 when he severed his connection with the firm and came to Astoria to establish the present business with his wife. She was a member of Fern chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, Alfred M. (Al) Downs, 1384 Miller Lane, Astoria, and a brother, Harold McAlister, route 4, Astoria.

Details of services which will be Friday at 10:30 a.m., will be announced by the Hughes-Hanson mortuary.

Services for Mrs. Fay Carol Downs, 53, will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel of the Hughes-Hanson Mortuary. The Rev. Jack Walden officiating. Cremation to follow. Serving as casket bearers will be Sam Shields, Delbert Moore, Philip Weinstein, Dr. Harvey Rones, Peter Cosovich and Harold Hoff.
