Amariah Dana became a member of the Pomfret, CT church, with his wife, Oct. 16, 1764; removed to Amherst in 1773, and was long a schoolmaster there. He was one of the 83 Green Mountain Boys with Ethan Allen at the taking of Fort Ticonderoga, May 10, 1775, and, being very patriotic, he named a daughter Freedom. He was in Jan. 1776, a private in Capt. James Hendrick's Co. of Col. Lovell's Regt. He enlisted May 7, 1777, as private in Capt. John Thompson's Co. of Col. Leonard's Hampshire County Regt. for two months, and later was a private in Lt. Noah Dickinson's Co.; Col. Elisha Porter's Regt. for four days, marching on an alarm to New Providence, in Aug. 1777. In Nov. 1778, he was a private in Reuben Dickinson's Co., Col. Porter's Regt., and served five months.
